Relieving relatives

Care-Givers help in difficult cases and relieve families

The experiences with severely disabled people who need intensive care were decisive for the creation of the "Care-Givers".

Care-givers are semi-skilled local helpers who assist the relatives of the severely disabled once a week with the care and cleaning in the house. They do work that the NEXUBA core team on site cannot do.

Care Givers (2-3) are currently being trained how to care for patients who need to lie down, who need nappies, who cannot move by themselves, etc.    wash them and bandage them if necessary. But
they also tidy up the room, clean the paintwork, do laundry, clean dirty floors and toilets, etc. They can visit someone on call who needs support at the moment.

Such co-help relieves the relatives and gives them the feeling of not being completely alone. The NEXUBA team has made the experience that the sympathy from outside strengthens the relatives. And some relatives, such as the elderly mother with the paralysed daughter Made Reni, are overburdened with the care purely in terms of their strength. In this case, the Care Givers can, for example, ensure that the paralysed daughter is clean and does not vegetate in a dirty environment.

The Care Givers programme is still in its infancy. Alik, a nursing specialist at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar and NEXUBA member, is teaching the first Care Givers on site. The aim is for the Care Givers - similar to Spitex in Switzerland - to visit chronic patients regularly and help the relatives (including "household help"). However, it should also be possible for ad hoc assignments to take place whenever light care services are needed and the relatives are under great strain.

Health centre in Jungutun

In Jungutan, a building was constructed in 2018 with government assistance, which now serves as a health centre for all 12 banjars.

People with disabilities

Since summer 2022, NEXUBA has also been supporting people with disabilities. These people have a particularly hard time in Indonesia if they do not have family members who understand their disability and take care of them.

At NEXUBA, it is people like you who make our mission possible. Support us on this journey.

Your donation is a gift! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
