New health centre in Jungutan
In Jungutan, a building was constructed in 2018 with government assistance that now serves as a health centre for all 12 banjars: two examination rooms, clean toilets, a waiting room and a storage room. Two registered nurses examine patients here, provide first aid and ensure some basic care. The simple but up-to-date infrastructure of the practice was financed with donations from NEXUBA.
A mobile medical service was planned to complement the health centre. Thanks to donors, NEXUBA was also able to set this up and launch it at the end of 2019 after receiving all the necessary permits. But no sooner had it started than the COVID 19 pandemic put the brakes on the project. After several and longer interruptions, all 12 banjars could finally be visited at least once by the end of 2020.
Our team, led by Dr Anom Sapariati, examined 842 patients (327 men, 515 women) and diagnosed two or more diseases in 129 of them. In addition to diagnosis and initial treatment, we also dispensed medication where necessary and possible. After the regular consultation in a public building, patients who are still immobile or seriously ill are usually visited at home. Our team records each person and creates a medical record in which the course of health and the medicines dispensed are recorded.
The most common diseases identified were muscular injuries (128 cases = 15.2%) and osteoarthritis/arthrosis (80 cases = 9.5%). Diagnoses made 30 to 60 times: diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, the respiratory tract as well as the skin, general malaise, headaches, high blood pressure, lower back pain. The age structure of the people treated ranges from infants to 101-year-old men. The number of examinations of infants under five years of age was low compared to adults. However, among the toddlers examined, the NEXUBA mobile health team mostly diagnosed respiratory infections. This is because young children do not yet have a developed immune system and are very susceptible to infections - both viral and bacterial - especially in the respiratory tract. The extreme weather in the rainy season and lack of hygiene favour the infections.
Mobile health care in the east of Bali
The numerous positive feedbacks from the local authorities and especially from the population encourage us to continue the services started at the end of 2019, to expand the areas and to seek donors for their funding.
COVID-19 emergency aid
In spring 2020, the COVID-19 virus reached Indonesia and with it Bali.
